I was watching
this show one afternoon while Adam was puttering around getting ready for work. And this particular episode was about Tubal Ligation vs Vasectomy. They have a doctor on the show and the mom's asked questions about how to decide. I have to say I was not impressed with his answer. First he explained that either procedure was very common, and yes the tubal ligation was a little more complicated but he then said that it's a personal choice and if you feel strongly enough about not wanting any more children and you want to do something about that... to do it. It's your call.
Yes okay, it's a "personal decision" but to me... that personal decision when your married is to be made together. And that wasn't what he was saying at all. Catherine Marion even tried to get him to specifically talk about married couples deciding. And he stuck with the "personal decision".
I disagree. To me, if I feel that I may want more children, and my husband doesn't, I don't think it would be right for him to go ahead and make the call to the doctor to get a vasectomy. Until I agree I don't want any more children as well, I don't think he should just go and do it, and same goes the other way. It's a decision that I think we should both come to an agreement on. This doctor flat out said if YOU decide you don't want anymore kids, and you want to go about having the procedure done, then do it. Not once did he say anything about considering the other's feelings.
What do you think?
